Life as a widow can be so difficult, no matter where you live. But in many places in Asia, becoming a widow is like living in hell on earth. Society often believes widows have sinned in some horrible way which resulted in their husbands’ deaths, and as a result, widows can be labeled as cursed and rejected as outcasts. Even family members may walk out on their own mothers, sisters or daughters if they are widowed.
As hopeless as this situation seems, God cares deeply for each widow in Asia—so much so that He sent Jesus to their rescue. So let’s believe He will bring new life to these hurting widows.
Let’s pray for widows in Asia:
According to UNICEF, as of 2016, there are an estimated 150,000,000 (150 million) children who are involved in child labour worldwide. June 12 is World Day Against Child Labour, so let’s remember these suffering children around the world who are caught in hard labour, slavery and sex trafficking.
And as we pray, let’s also remember who God is and His heart for these children.
“Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. … The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow…” (Psalm 146:7,9).
Here are some ways we can be praying:
In cultures that maintain strict social rules for men and women, men aren’t always able to help widows or abandoned children in the same way women can. Let’s pray for women missionaries as they pour out their lives to love people who are hurting and broken.
Here are some ideas for prayer:
Corporately, our GFA staff has been reading and praying through the book of Acts. In nearly every chapter, we’ve been reminded of the need to pray for unity in our ministry and in the Body of Christ at large. So, let’s join our hearts with Jesus and agree with His prayer: “May they [believers] experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me…” (John 17:23a, NLT).
Here are some ways we can be praying:
In many of the areas where GFA World serves, transportation options are limited. These rural places, in which many of the world’s poor people live, are isolated by distance and by challenging terrain. GFA workers may trek miles, often by foot, just to visit a remote village. The isolation also affects the people within those communities, hampering adults from reaching their workplaces and children from obtaining a proper education.See all prayer requests
In the regions GFA World serves, many people still live in poverty, and even a blanket or a winter jacket can be unaffordable for them. This puts lives at risk, and it makes it harder for missionaries to visit people who are waiting to hear of Christ’s love. Please join us in praying this month for those who need blankets and winter clothing.See all prayer requests
